Welcome to the very first Lemont Library Reads Blog! As you may know, or may not know, the library offers lively book discussions every month with their Book Buzz Book Club. We also supply materials for many off site clubs including the Bottles Book Club, ChickLits, and many others. We are glad to announce a new book club, created by and led by our librarians. We've recently created Books on Tap, a new adult book club. Many people may be asking, what is a new adult? And why do they get their own book club? I'm glad you asked, because I'm here to explain.
A new adult, in library terms, is a person aged 18 - 35. Someone who is just discovering college, a new career, and all the fun stuff that entails becoming an adult. This group can also be referred to experienced young adults. You may see a "young adult" section at the library. This is another word for teens and people in their early twenties. So new adult is the next step in the game of life, and comes with it's own unique experiences and challenges. We want to offer a book club that caters to this crowd and allows them to discuss books, among other things, with people their age and librarians their age.
Books on Tap is a unique gathering of people in Lemont and gathers a unique choice of books to discuss. I can offer a preview here at our Books on Tap webpage, but I can also offer some insight on the upcoming titles. We want to explore all topics, genres, and formats when choosing our titles. One title on tap is "Dark Days," a memoir by Randy Blythe. Randy is the singer of heavy metal band Lamb of God. He was put in jail in the Czech Republic over an accidental death of a fan at their concert. The memoir entails the entire story of his incarceration, trial and aftermath. Another exciting, upcoming title is "Blood, Bones & Butter" which follows the life of a chef from childhood to her amazing journey around the world in the culinary arts.
Finally, you are probably wondering why the book club is entitled Books on Tap. Well there is a great reason it's called that. We are teaming up with Pollyanna Brewing Company and they are gracious enough to let us meet there the second Thursday of every month starting in January, 2016. Make sure to check our website or at the library for more news concerning Books on Tap. Thanks for checking out the Blog and we'll be back soon with some more exciting news from the Lemont Public Library. Cheers!
